Citrus County Citizens Academy
to start Sept 6
The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners fall session of the Citizens
Academy is scheduled for Thursday, September 6. This marks the fifth semi-annual session
since it began in April 2010.
The Academy is a free course designed to educate and inform citizens about the
departments which make up Citrus County government. It gives residents a hands-on, in-
side look at what, how and why the county’s departments do what they do, from budget to
parks and road maintenance to community services. This gives citizens the opportunity to
understand the board’s responsibilities and capabilities and how the taxpayers’ resources are
utilized. There are field trips to various sites throughout the county that will be covered in
this course, and transportation will be provided.
There are no qualifications needed other than being a resident of the county and
having an interest in how local government works. The only requirement of the class is at-
tendance. The training is cumulative, so applicants are encouraged to attend all sessions.
Registration is on a first come, first served basis. If more than the allotted slots are
requested, the names will be put on a waiting list in the order they were received for the next
session which is scheduled for spring 2013.
