Homosassa cannabis grow house
located and disabled Cooperative gener-
On Aug. 26, a crew chief with Withlacoochee River Electric
ated a report of electric tampering at a residence located in Homosassa at 5894 W. Meadow
St. The Citrus County Sheriff s Office was informed that the tampering could have occurred
anytime within the past month. A representative from the company went the the
residence and saw what appeared to be an electric diversion.
On Aug. 27, deputies from the sheriff s office and officials with the elec-
tric company went to the residence to investigate the possible theft of utilities.
At the residence, two electric lines were clamped into the main electric
line for the residence. The reading of 48 kkwh (kilowatt hours) indicated high Gomez
electric consumption for the size of the mobile home. When the officers heard
someone walking inside the residence, they knocked on the door. Fourty-seven year-old res-
ident Juan C. Gomez opened the door, and the deputy and electric officials smelled the odor
of cannabis. The deputy noted that Gomez s English is very broken, and he used gestures to
assist in communication, so he contacted a fluent Spanish-speaking deputy to communicate
with Gomez. Gomez indicated that he grows cannabis for his own personal consumption.
He gave consent for his home to be searched and the cannabis to be retrieved.
Officers uncovered a small cannabis grow operation consisting of 33 cannabis
plants, 11 ballasts and 8 light bulbs.Gomez was charged with possession of a controlled
substance with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver and alter/tamper with utility fixtures.
His total bond was set at $5,500.
