Number of Employed
Continues to Expand
CareerSource Citrus Levy Mar-
ion's regional jobless rate was nearly un-
changed in August, at 7.9 percent up 0.1
percent from July. There were 15,989 un-
employed out of an expanded labor force
of 203,572. That rate is down 0.5 percent
over the year and 2.3 percentage points
lower than two years ago.
Citrus County continued to post
the highest unemployment rate in the re-
gion at 8.1 percent, followed by Marion
County with 7.8 percent both up 0.1 per-
centage points and Levy County held at
7.5 percent. The not-seasonally adjusted
rate for Florida is 6.7 percent, also up 0.1
percent, while the national rate dropped to
6.3 percent.
What the unemployment rate
doesn't show, however, is that the growth
in the number of those working outpaced
the increase in the number of jobless, said
Kathleen Woodring, chief operating officer
for CareerSource Citrus Levy Marion.
