Citrus County approves increase for inmate workforce
Inglis, Florida
The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners unanimously voted at their reg-
ular board meeting on September 11, 2012 to ratify the Citrus County Detention Policy 19-100
for the purpose of increasing the utilization of the inmate work force.
All inmate work programs will be mandatory for sentenced inmates serving county
time. Pre-trial, unsentenced, Federal and US Virgin Island inmates are not required to work
except for personal housekeeping. Inmates must meet medical clearance, along with approval
from a representative of the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office. Currently, the county utilizes non-
violent misdemean or felon inmates for the road side litter pick up crew, ranging from 2 in-
mates to 8, depending on availability. This new policy allows for a larger labor pool.
