Hernando man charged with giving false
information to metal recycler
On Aug. 30, Rodney Allen Leffew, 27, 3840 N. Calumet Ter., Hernando, was
charged with giving false information to a metal recycler, less than $300.
Acccording to the arrest report, two deputies spoke with Leffew at his home re-
garding several transactions he’d made at Inter-County Recycling. Leffew provided an
expired Florida Driver’s License and said he’d not lived at that address in at least a year.
The investigators showed Leffew a Florida Secondary Metals Recyclers Purchase Transac-
tion Form he’d completed on April 20, 2011 using his old address. He stated he’d used his
old driver’s license because he did not have money to get a new license with his current
address. He said he’d not given his new address to the recycler because he did not think it
was important.
Upon further questioning. Leffew said he was not sure where he’d obtained the
items he’d turned-in to Inter-County Recycling. The deputies showed him pictures of vari-
ous items from his transactions, which included a pile of aluminum coils from a Trane air-
conditioner, nine compressors and other air-conditioner parts, but he still insisted he did not
know where any of the items had come from. Leffew verified that he does not work for an
air-conditioner company and he does not know anyone who works for an air-conditioner
company.
He was arrested for providing false information to a metal recycler and transported
to the Citrus County Detention Facility. At the detention facility, Leffew stated in an inter-
view that some of the items may have come from a neighbor he knows as Brian, but none
of the air-conditioner parts had come from him. The investigation is ongoing, according to
the report, and more charges could follow. Leffew’s bond was set at $12,000.
Homosassa Assisted living Facility Goes Smoke-Free
Sunflower Springs Assisted Living Facility in Homosassa is proud to announce
that it is the county’s newest tobacco-free campus! Pictured below, Sunflower Springs’ staff
members proudly display one of the new signs donated by the Tobacco Free Partnership of
Citrus County. The sign declares that the campus is TOBACCO-FREE inside and outside
for the health, safety and welfare of Sunflower Springs’ residents, staff and visitors.
A policy on smoking and use of tobacco products in the workplace took effect
on September 1, 2011, to include all buildings/shelters, parking lots, porches/alcoves and
sidewalks on Sunflower Springs’ property. There is no area on the property that is exempt
from this policy; including an employee’s or visitor’s automobile if it is parked on the
property. Employees are to be tobacco-free on the clock. This effort was made in conjunc-
tion with Citrus County Health Department - Tobacco Free Partnership.
