still a scenic and beautiful drive. We drove all day Saturday and after reaching Pigeon Forge
we were tired of traffic so we decided to push on and stay the night in a less congested area.
We stopped about 40 miles east/northeast of Knoxville at a Holiday Inn Express in Dandridge
Tennessee.
We managed to get the last room available at the hotel that night, (much to the
chagrin of the couple who came in only seconds behind us). The desk clerk said the only room
left was a suite and it cost $50.00 more than the regular room. We were so tired we took it
anyway.
The first thing we did when we went into the room was go out on the balcony that
was part of the third floor suite. We admired the view and then turned to go back into the room
only to discover that the sliding glass door that opened onto the balcony was shut and
locked. After a few minutes the reality set in that we were 35 feet or so above the parking lot,
our cell phones were inside the room and there was no one in sight. After what seemed like an
eternity we saw a couple pull into the motel next door. They were unpacking and I yelled for
them to look our way. I think they thought I was either drunk or a con artist up to something.
But realizing this might be best opportunity to get off that balcony, I yelled one more time as
they started into the motel ?hey Michigan?!! I yelled, I had noticed the couple had Michigan
license plates on their car and that last effort got their attention, the man finally looked our

realized we were sincere and the man responded by going to our motel lobby and informing

The desk clerk who checked us in was on the scene moments later and she tried the
