rus County Sheriff’s Office, Aug. 11, on several felony charges: dealing in property valued
less than $300 by the use of the internet, grand theft from a dwelling ($100 or more, but less
than $300) and burglary of an unoccupied residence. His total bond was set at $22,000. Ac-
cording to the arrest affidavit, the burglary took place at a N. Crooked Branch Dr. Lecanto
residence while the owner was out of the county for an evening. Items taken were a laptop
computer, bottles of alcohol (liquor) and two floral suitcases. On Aug. 10, the sheriff’s office
was contacted about a man at the Shell gas station selling bottles of alcohol spirits in the
parking lot. While the deputy was enroute to the gas station, dispatch advised him that the
suspect had left on a bicycle, heading west on E. Norvell Bryant Hwy.
The witness identified the suspect as Webb, a regular customer at the gas station
and said he’d told her that he was selling items from the estate of a relative who had passed
away. The deputy placed a Be On the Look Out (“BOLO”) for Webb, but did not locate
him. He was soon diverted (Aug. 10) to a vehicle crash at the intersection of Future Ter.
and Melline Dr. The deputy noticed that the driver was Webb, who was placed under arrest
by the FHP for a DUI and transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility. About 2:30
a.m. (Aug. 11), the above-mentioned stolen items were found at the Shell station, located at
2025 N. Lecanto Hwy. The owner identified the property. The witness at the Shell station
identified Webb as the person selling the stolen items in the parking lot and told the deputy
she’d provide the video surveillance to the sheriff’s office the following day. Webb’s foot
ware was retrieved from the property division of the Citrus County Detention Facility, and
the soles of his shoes were a positive match to photographs taken of footprints at the scene
of the burglary. On the traffic crash, Webb was charged with driving while license suspended
or revoked knowingly (second offense), refuse to submit to testing and DUI with property
damage; total bond $2,250.
Ronald Wayne Smith, 39, 6 S. Washington St, Beverly Hills, was arrested by the
Citrus County Sheriff’s Office, July 28, charged with misdemeanor battery (bond $500). He
is accused of battering a man who had hired him for few jobs for extra cash. His work had
been completed several days previous. and he and a couple other people had been told that
they would be paid that evening, but upon his arrival, Smith (and others) were informed they
wouldn’t be getting paid that day. The report stated that Smith told the employer, that if he
didn’t get his money, he’d burn the loader down. Mr. Smith went outside to make a phone
call and returned inside and flipped over a table. He then shoved the employer out of his
chair, causing the man to fall and hit his head on the kitchen cabinet before landing on his
left shoulder. Smith left the area of the altercation, but was arrested, later, at his residence.
