Remembering the Past
Deputies heard Burnham cursing, saying he would not come out, that law enforce-
ment could come in and get him. A K-9 deputy arrived at the scene. For about four hours,
officers continued pleading with Burnham, to come out peacefully, and he continued telling
them they would have to come in and get him.
Burnham threw a hammer through a broken window, barely missing two of the
deputies. One of the deputies pepper-sprayed Burnham through the window, but it didn't
seem to have any effect on him, the report stated.
Burnham then got a metal baseball bat and smashed the door from the inside, to-
ward the deputies. One of the deputies blocked the window hole, using a ballistic shield,
while another deputy opened the door with the key.
Once the door was open, Burnham began throwing objects at the deputies. The K-9
deputy and canine Zeus went inside the residence, and Burnham struck the dog with the
baseball bat, which caused Zeus to retreat and leave the residence.
While Burnham was swinging the baseball bat, it came loose from his grip, near the
door, and a deputy was able to retrieve it.
One of the deputies was able to strike Burnham in the back off his left shoulder
with his shotgun. However, Burnham was still aggressive, coming toward the door, ignoring
the deputies' commands. Two deputies deployed their Taser guns, one striking Burnham on
the upper torso and one striking Burnham s pants. At this point, deputies were finally able to
stop Burnham and take him into custody.
Burnham was charged with one count of aggravated domestic battery (no bond),
one count of battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement
officer, battery on a law enforcement canine, and resisting without violence. His total bond
was set at $16,000. Read full story on our website: thenewscaster.com.
