Person of interest in ‘suspicious death’
arrested on additional robbery charges
John William Campbell, 37, of Inverness, a person of interest in the suspicious
death of his 68-year-old father, was arrested, August 17, on two additional arrest warrants,
the August 5 robbery of the Inverness Walgreens (S.R. 44 and Indepen-
dence Hwy.), and the August 7 robbery of the Inverness Family Dol-
lar (U.S. Hwy. 41). Campbell was charged with two counts of robbery
where offender carried no weapon and held without bond at the Citrus
County Detention Facility.
Campbell was already incarcerated and being held without
bond since August 16 on another charge of robbery where offender car-
ried no weapon, for an attempted robbery of the Inverness Lowe s home
improvement store that took place around 4:45 p.m., August 10. Ac-
cording to the arrest report, the suspect threatened the clerk that he had

a gun, however, the frightened clerk ran away from the area, and the
suspect, believed to be Campbell, left the store empty-handed and on foot.
Later the same day (August 10), just before 9:30 p.m., CCSO deputies found
Campbell’s 68 year-old father dead in a “suspicious manner,” according to the sheriff’s of-
fice, at the house they shared on E. Nugget Ln. (Inverness). No additional information has
been released regarding the suspicious death, other than the younger Campbell is a ‘person
of interest.’
