Third of four phases of four-laning C.R. 486 begins
Pet Patrol
Citrus county has begun the next to last step toward finishing the four-laning of
County Road 486 from U.S. 41 to State Road 44.
Crews have now begun Phase III of that undertaking -- the four-laning of C.R.
486 from Ottawa Avenue west to the service entrance for Black Diamond, which is east of
W. Pine Ridge Boulevard. There is only one more segment after that remaining to be four-
laned.
Phase IV, the final phase of the four-laning, from the Black Diamond service en-
trance to S.R. 44, could begin by mid-2011. The county isstill acquiring the last properties
it needs in that segment but hopes to be finished with that by the end of the year.
The current Phase III, now underway, has four projects in it. The biggest is the
actual four-laning of the road, with about three miles paving and lane-tapering in total.
This part of Phase III costs $10.9 million and includes improvement of the C.R.
486/C.R. 491 intersection, four drainage retention areas(DRAs), a new traffic signal, a 12-
foot wide multi-use parallel path along the road, and laying of some new water and sewer
mains, as well as relocation of others, and a new wastewater pumping station. That pumping
station will be just south of the intersection adjacent to one of four retention areas, which
will be one of the largest DRAs in the county. Some of that work may be initially done at
