Coast Guard suspends search for
missingCoast Guard boater
Ocala
On Thurs., Aug. 18, the U.S.
suspended the search for an Ocala boater who failed
to return on Sun. night, as expected, to Horseshoe
Beach in Dixie County. Mitchell Szegi, 47, de-
parted in a 22-foot fishing boat at noon on Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg
received the overdue report at 3:25 am, Mon., and
started the search at about 3:45 pm.
A crew member aboard an HC-130 Hercu-
les airplane from Air Station Clearwater spotted a
boat at 8:52 am Tues. that was later confirmed to be
Mr. Szegi's, approximately 40 miles south of Car-
rabelle in the Florida panhandle. (The nautical dis-
tance from Horseshoe Beach to Carrabelle is 87.54

an HC-130 Hercules airplane crew from Air Station Clearwater, Coast Guard Cutter Hawk caught this beauty with a live pinfish close to the intake canal.
