Proposed Levy County Tax Rates for 2009 Power of One!Ruth Ruppert
Update

The Power of One! letter writing program is in it’s last week of Phase II. The sum-
mer has been somewhat slow, but several letter writers have still been in touch’ scratching
out almost 50 letters since June 4th.
It’s a close race for First place between upcoming Second graders Meadow Bell
and Brittney Evers. In the soon-to-be Third graders, Kristina Cooper has First place sewn
up, while Hannah Roof and Alyssa Thompson are tied for Second. Dustin Wright is running
a close Third.
The next level of Fourth graders have been the busiest. Drashti Patel achieved the
rank of Brigadier General (one star) with a total of over 75 letters, Summer Bell became a
Major (over 30 letters), and Tricia Ruttinger and Ashton Williamson both became members
of the Officer’s Club when they wrote over 10 letters each.
The students that were already in the Power of One! Program that are going into
the Fifth grade this year are still eligible for awards and prizes until December 15th (end of
Phase III). Vanessa Samples has run away with First place, while Sylvester Fonda is hold-
ing onto Second. Noveline Bowerson, Kimberly Evers and Savannah Thompson are all tied
for Third.
Awards will be presented the first week of school (at the Yankeetown School) for
the winners of Phase II of the Program. Phase III will run from August 20 through De-
cember 15. Students in the Inglis/Yankeetown area going into grades 2 - 4 are eligible to
participate.
Several individuals have donated stamps to keep this program free to the stu-
dents, and we all thank them for that support. Parents: please encourage your child to
participate. Keep those cards and letters coming!
