Letter to the Editor:
Re: Dear Inglis Residents,
Our Inglis Attorney Mr. Norm Fugate is under a retainer contract with Inglis for
a monthly fee of $500.00 plus additional services billed at $ 185.00 per hour. While this
hourly fee seems reasonable it includes web research, telephone calls, travel, and sorting
data files etc. Some of this work is not performed personally by Mr. Fugate but by various
associates in his employ. This is where our opportunity comes into play. Every hour that we
pay Mr. Fugate for non legal tasks we can afford to hire folks for 15 hours at $12.00 per
hour. Our objective should be to learn how to properly employ the same tools that are cur-
rently used by Mr. Fugate’s team. Web sites like Muni-Codes and Florida Statutes are free
and only require time to look up Statues and Ordinances.
Trim notices are provided by our Levy County Property Appraiser on a CD for
review and sortation of data such as house hold name address, residential or business ad-
dress vs. vacant land. We have been invoiced nearly $13,000 in the past few years to sort and
review data files. This work I believe was performed by a Fugate associate who is proficient
in Excel or other spread sheet program. This is important because Mr. Fugate’s latest July
bill is for $1,350 to do preliminary work on Trim Notices that our Inglis Commissioners as
of Aug. 8th budget meeting have not approved nor voted on???? So how many hrs. could
