Found On Small Island
Update - Forty-nine year old Dora Steed was found Friday morning by a Sea-Tow
crew on a small island about a mile and a half from where she disappeared Thursday. The
U.S. Coast Guard said she was found on Green Key, a small uninhabited island. She ap-
peared to be okay, but was taken to a local hospital to be checked out.
Original story - Search crews were continuing their search near St. Martin s Key,
Homosassa for a woman that went missing while scalloping with her husband. The call
came into the U.S. Coast Guard just before 6 pm. Thursday after the husband reported being
separated from the couple s boat while diving for scallops. He said when he returned to the
boat, his wife was no where to be found. Units from the Citrus County Sheriff Dept., FWC,
U.S. Coast Guard and others continued their search at dawn Friday.
Man drowns in Yankeetown Gulf, July 4th
A festive holiday ended tragically when an area resident drowned in the Gulf of
Mexico, July 4th, near the Yankeetown boat ramp. At 8:45 pm, 43 year-old Allen L. Strick-
land of Homosassa drowned while swimming from the boat ramp to one of the nearby small
islands in the gulf.
According to Lt. Scott Tummond with the Criminal Investigation Division of the
Levy County Sheriff s Office, "Strickland had a habit of drinking excessively and going
swimming. This is not the first time. He wasn t able to swim to his destination point and,

Both are being held at the Levy County Detention Facility, Gray on a $60,000 bond
