Yankeetown Mayor s Report
A Guest Commentary by Dawn Clary
Meeting Issues - The Planning and Zoning Commission has worked through a
very large rewrite of our land development code, Chapter 21 of the Town ordinances. The
changes proposed deal almost exclusively with commercial property and it is the aim of
P&Z to forge a document that will allow for the lifting of the moratorium that has been on
commercial development. A joint meeting was held with P&Z and town council to review
the document. The meeting was VERY productive. Public hearings are now being planned
to propose the adoption of these changes. Our Land Use Attorney, Ralf Brookes is prepar-
ing the finished document to be offered for adoption and there will be one hearing by Plan-
ning and Zoning and two hearings with the council. Please make use of these hearings to
voice your opinion.
Budget meetings - As if council did not have enough to do, its budget time again
the first meeting is on July 14th at 1:00 PM.

Walton Investors’ challenge to the Department of Community Affairs intent to find our
Comprehensive Plan in compliance, we are scheduled for mediation on July 21st. Me-
diation is a normal legal procedure which hopes to encourage the two parties to somehow
settle their differences through talks with a mediator. Should a compromise be achieved it
would possibly negate the need for the administrative hearing which has been scheduled for

bar to the patrol car and said, “Go ahead and take me to jail. I’m the guy you’re looking for.”
