Water Woes
With Sally Price
Inglis Code Sec.
70-43. Tampering with wa-
ter system states: No person
shall tamper with, alter, tap
into, connect, disconnect, or turn on or off,
any component of the town water system,
including any storage facility, distribution
line meter, cutoff valve or lock. Any person
who violates this section, shall upon con-
viction, for each offense thereof, be subject
to a fine not to exceed $300.00 or imprison-
ment not to exceed 90 days, or by both such
fine and imprisonment in the discretion of
the court.
There has been a lot of “water
under the bridge” this past 6 months at
Inglis Town meetings pertaining to town
water. Inglis residents who have suffered a
large water bill due to a line break on their
side of the meter found the 5 elected offi-
cials stood by the payment of the total bill,
which could be divided over the year if the
bill was over a certain amount. One citizen
had a $2000 bill for a water line break at a
home they bought and was in the process of
renovation, not living in it.
