August 7, 2013 “Purple Heart Recognition Day” in Citrus County - Citrus County Board of
County Commissioners presented a Proclamation to members of the Aaron A. Weaver Chapter
776 Military Order of the Purple Heart at their regular meeting on July 23 proclaiming August
7, 2013 as “Purple Heart Recognition Day” in Citrus County. The Purple Heart, originally
known as the Military Badge of Merit, was established by the General Orders of General
George Washington, two hundred and one years ago, on August 7, 1782, and is now the oldest
military decoration in the world in present use.
