The Ever Changing
Landsacape of Area Business
With Doug Johnston
I came across some
old football programs for
Citrus High School and a
Crystal River High School
program was mixed in. I
was a Citrus guy so I’m not
sure how I ended up with a
CRHS football program that
was published for the game
against Santa Fe High School in 1961. The
Citrus programs I have are from 1960 and
61. I was a sophomore in 1960 and I was
listed at 165lbs and that was probably gen-
erous. We only had one player on the roster
at 200lbs, Jimmy Rogers. That was good
window dressing but, as good a fellow as
Jimmy was he didn’t make the starting
lineup.
Crystal River had one player,
Steve Wilson, listed at 203 lbs. I don’t re-
call playing against him but I do remember
some of the names on that roster: “Dubby”
Bertine, Howard Standard, Donnie May-
nard, and Jim Langenmeyer and a few oth-
ers come to mind.
