To Serve "Catkind"
In 2006 I drove my wife to
Tampa to catch a plane to Pitts-
burgh. Her cousin Gary picked
her up there and delivered her
to her mother, an hour away in
Hazleton, West Virginia. She
was there a week before I drove there to join
her, because her mother underwent an opera-
tion that Monday.

34 years of marriage that Kathie and I have
spent a week apart. The last time was also
when her mother had surgery. I understand
the need for her to go and assist her mother,
but I dread a week away from my beloved
wife. We go together like peanut butter and
jelly. It's not the same when she is gone.
The cats know she is leaving. They
have that sense about them. They will look at
her as if to say, "please take us with you. Don't
leave us here alone with HIM.
The cats will, of course, expect me
to empty their dirty liter pan daily and keep
plenty of food and water in their little dishes,
