Crystal River puppy inhumanely killed
Remembering the Past
The Citrus County Sheriff's Office is conducting an animal cruelty investigation
into the death of a puppy in Crystal River. Animal Control officers responded to a call at
3098 N. Chameleon Pt. in Crystal River on Sunday, July 5 after the homeowner found their
3 month-old lab mix puppy dead in the backyard of their home. The dog was kept outside,
tethered to a tree in the back yard. The dog was sent to the state laboratory in Orlando for a
necropsy. According to the CCSO Media Division, there has been much speculation within
the community as to how this dog died. Necropsy results are part of the active investigation,
and the results have not yet been received. However, the sheriff's office has confirmed that
the dog was killed in an inhumane manner.
Detectives are gathering evidence and conducting interviews to decide whether
criminal charges will be filed. They are asking that anyone with information regarding this
case to contact the Citrus County Sheriff's Office at 352-726-1121. To remain anonymous
and be eligible for a cash reward, please contact Crime Stoppers of Citrus County at www.
crimestopperscitrus.com or call 1-888-ANY-TIPS. There may be other cash rewards avail-
able up to $10,000, according to Lindsay Blair, Media Specialist.
