Citrus County, Habitat partnering to

get lower income families in homes
The Citrus County Board of County Commissioners is partnering with Habitat for
Humanity to help families with lower incomes get a home of their own.Families that earn
30 to 60 percent of average median income in the county are eligible. A family of four, for
example can make up to $28,320 and qualify.
Habitat for Humanity of Citrus County is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry
working to eliminate poverty housing in Citrus County by providing simple, decent, afford-
able housing to those who have a need, ability to pay and willingness to partner.
Through its partnership with Citrus County Housing Services, the program uses State
Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) program funding, as well as private donations and
volunteers, to reduce the costs of building homes for families that would otherwise not be
able to buy them.Participants must also qualify for the Habitat program, and so in addition
to meeting the income guidelines, family partners must be able and willing to put in the
required 500 “partnership hours” per family as “sweat equity,” by working along with
Habitat volunteers on the home.
The family must also be able and willing to attend Family Partner Classes and SHIP
