Re: Fire in Inglis
On Wednesday, July 13th near Mary St in Inglis, lightening struck a tall pine tree
in our neighbor's wooded backyard near our own garage. Within minutes of the fire being
reported, the Inglis, Yankeetown, and Levy County fire departments arrived and took con-
trol of the fire. Shortly, thereafter, the Forrest Service arrived with a bulldozer and plowed a
firebreak around the lingering blaze. This was no small fire. I would estimate about an acre
burned.
For the next two days, the Forrest Service plane and the Inglis fire department
monitored the hot spots. On the third day, the Forrest Service reappeared, walked the area,
and hosed down the remaining hot spots.
