New Citrus Budget down by $12 Million
Pet Patrol
County Administrator Brad Thorpe has released his proposed budget for Fiscal
2012-13 to the Board of County Commissioners. During a press conference Monday af-
ternoon, Mr. Thorpe outlined his budget message, “My job is to prepare a budget for the
Commissioners to review.”
Thorpe stressed the outlook for the budget is better than he originally thought,
“What I’m proposing is a roll-back rate, which is an adjustment to make up for the decrease
in property value.”
The proposed budget will be available to view on the BOCC website (www.bocc.
citrus.fl.us/) Tuesday, July 17.The next budget workshop will be Wednesday, July 25, 2012
in the Commission chambers, Suite 100, at the Citrus County Courthouse in Inverness start-
ing at 9am. The meeting is open to the public.

The $100,000 project will be funded through a $100,000 donation from the Felburn
Foundation. The new aviary will encompass 1,125 square feet making it four to five times
larger than the current shorebird exhibit.
The new aviary will be 75 feet by 75 feet cylindrical structure that will include
a waterway and pond with landscaping. Visitors will be able to enter the aviary into an
enclosed viewing area for a close up view of the birds and great opportunities for nature
photographers. Park Manager Art Yerian says, “This will be a photographer’s dream.” The
exhibit will house a wide variety of Florida shorebirds including Ospreys, Black-crowned
and Yellow-crowned Night Herons, Little Blue Herons, Green Herons, Stilts, Terns, Ruddy
Turnstones, and more.
Work on the project will begin within a few weeks and should be completed by late
spring. When completed a plaque on the project will recognize the Felburn Foundation and
Ellie Schiller.
