Spray Field Performance - Even with all the rain, the new spray field, used to dispose of
the reverse osmoses waste from the new water plant, has been functioning very well. Plant
staff reports that there are not even any soggy spots.
Park Rules - In the summer when I was a kid, my mother would take all four of us kids
to a lake in town and drop us off for the day. She had to work and being the oldest, I was in
charge of the three "little ones". This would probably be considered child neglect today but
at the time no one thought anything of it. We had a great time and it seemed we never tired
of it. Sadly, the lake is closed now due to pollution and signs stand eerily in the water where
many happy swimmers used to play. All this is to say that I understand the childhood de-
sires to swim and enjoy the local waters. Times change, town liability and other factors have
bearing on the issue. At the July regular meeting the town council reviewed an ordinance
drafted by our town attorney, which addressed the swimming issue at Yacht Basin Park and
also camping which has been a problem with vagrancy. Hours of operation will also be
set if this ordinance is adopted. The ordinance was proposed as an emergency ordinance
but Town Council decided that this was not an emergency issue but should go through the
normal hearing procedure. These hearings have not been set yet but should be announced
shortly. The no swimming rule will remain until the council makes its final decision. Good
Night and Good Luck, Dawn Marie Clary, Mayor of Yankeetown.
