From Yankeetown Town Hall
A Guest Commentary by Yankeetown Mayor Dawn Clary
Congratulations - Water Department employee Paul Shearer has earned his Class
D Drinking Water Treatment Plant Operator License. This is a huge milestone. As of May
2011, this level of license will be required for anyone doing maintenance on the distribution
system, so it was very important that Paul accomplish this as water line maintenance is a big
part of his job.
Cell Tower -Yankeetown has received a proposal for the placement of a cell tower
on town property. We are currently looking at the aspects of doing this such as where it
would go and what types of easements would have to be put in place.
Tarmac Mine - The Yankeetown Council voted to request an administrative hear-
ing concerning a pending water use permit from SWFWMD to the Tarmac Mine project
north of town. The request arises out of a concern that the YT water supply could be nega-
tively impacted. At this time YT has received an extension of time to respond to SWFWD
while our attorney evaluates the situation.
Suwannee River League of Cities (SRLC) - Yankeetown has joined the SRLC
which is sort of like the Florida League of Cities only on a smaller scale. It covers a 10
county area including Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Madison, Su-
wannee, Taylor and Union. Their stated mission among other things is to facilitate com-

Tree Replanting - A list of spots for replanting trees on town right of way has been
generated. Hopefully we will be able to move forward with purchasing trees and getting
them in the ground soon.
Oil Spill - Again, if you own or operate a business, be sure to keep good records
of income in case you are affected. Some are not aware that this also applies to anyone who
doesn’t own a business but works in an area such as a boat hand or any support function to
an affected business. Good Night and Good Luck, Dawn Marie Clary, Mayor, Yankeetown.
Inglis driver arrested on drug & tag charges
Wayne J. Drake, 44, of W. Edwards Ct., Inglis, was arrested by the Inglis Police
Department, July 10, after a traffic stop. According to the arrest report, Drake was stopped
at 44 Elizabeth Ct. for having a tag attached to the vehicle that belonged to a trailer, and
the vehicle Drake was driving was not registered. When the passenger exited the vehcle,
the officer saw, “in plain view under the arm rest, in the console toward the driver’s seat, a
plastic bag,” that contained a green leafy substance and two hypodermic needles. The leafy
substance field-tested positive for cannabis with a weight of approximately 1.0 gram, the
report stated. Drake was arrested for possession of cannabis, less than 20 grams and also
charged with attaching a tag unassigned. Drake was transported to the Levy County Jail.
