Awards at YTS honors achievements of middle school students
The first annual Evening of Awards for Yankeetown Middle School students was
held on Thursday, May 31, in the school auditorium. Due to the addition of a new overhead

teacher Genie Sturtevant, showing highlights of the middle school’s Pigeon Key Science
Trip in early May.
Numerous awards were presented to students by several organizations, including
the Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge and the Carol Runnels Sullivan CF Foundation, and also
by by teachers, in categories that included excellent grades, special achievements and out-
standing performances in attendance, citizenship, physical education, drama, and acceler-
ated reading.
Some of the winners included fifth-grade students Alyssa Thompson and Foster
Hawthorne who were awarded $4,000 scholarships to the College of Central Florida for
their secondary education; Jarred Barnes was awarded a trophy for having accumulated
almost 400 Accelerated Reader Points; Alyssa Cecere earned the Most Improved Student
