Cell Phones Back
In the News
With Doug Johnston
I
hate my cell
phone. I don’t leave home
without it and feel lost if
for some reason I forget to
take it with me or for some
reason it isn’t working. But I
detest the fact that I have let
this instrument become so vital to my daily
life.
When cell phones first came out
I told my friends and family that I would
never own one. Seems like I recall tell-
ing people something like, “I managed to
live my life without one up until now and
I think I can make it to the finish line just
fine without one”. But as time passed and
all of my family bought one I began us-
ing their phone at events we were at and
I needed to contact someone: or someone
was trying to reach me, I gave in. Now I
am a frequent, if reluctant, user.
Last week the World Health Or-
ganization announced that cell phone use
“might” increase chances for certain types
of brain cancer. Don’t get too excited folks.
