"This operation not only got the drug dealers off the streets, it also made the community

safer," Sgt. Justin Ferrara, leader of the Tactical Impact Unit, said Friday.

The illegal narcotic market has a direct impact on many other crimes occurring in

Citrus County. The illicit sale of narcotics is primarily a cash/trade business. Addicts in need

of money commit offenses such as burglaries, robberies, thefts and frauds in order to get

cash or to trade stolen property to support their drug habit. "The broad scope and number of

arrests in this operation should also have an impact on the crimes that are occurring in parts

of the county,î Ferrara added, ìso itís a win/win for all of us."

Detectives seized items ranging from crack/powder cocaine, marijuana and pre-

scription pills to a vehicle, a stolen firearm and cash. Plenty of drug paraphernalia was also

 

seized. More than 17 arrest warrants were issued with bonds totaling well over $1-million.
