fifth grade students could design and color a poster, and sixth through eighth grade students
could write an essay. The theme of the contest was “Why is it important to vote?”
The school is very pleased and proud to announce that Yankeetown School had
four winners in the Florida statewide competition! The statewide winners are Jessica Wat-
kins, 8th grade, for her essay; Trina Ruttinger, 5th grade, and Eli Thompson, 3rd grade, for
their poster designs; and Emily Stines, 1st grade, who won 2nd place in the American Flag
coloring contest. These students’ submissions will now go to the National AmVets contest.
While we anxiously await the outcome, we are so very proud of the patriotism these stu-
dents have shown, which was entirely voluntary.
