Coast Guard suspends search for
missing Sarasota Family family on Sat.,
The Coast Guard suspended the search for a missing Sarasota, FL
June 25. Ace Kimberly, 45, and his three children - Rebecca , 17; Donald, 15; and Roger,
13 - were last heard from on Sun. afternoon, June 19, after departing Sarasota, enroute to
Fort Myers.
On Tues., June 21, the Coast Guard received a report from Ace Kimberly's broth-
er, who stated that the family had left Sarasota at 7:00 am, Sun., enroute to Fort Myers to
repair their 29-ft. sailboat. Later on Sun., about 3:00 pm, Ace Kimberly called his brother
and stated the sailboat was in 6-ft. seas offshore from Englewood, FL and requested a
weather report.
The two bodies were later identified as the father, Ace Kimberly, and his 17 year-
old daughter, Rebecca Kimberly. The Coast Guard and partnering agencies conducted
more than 100 searches covering 33,830 square miles for more than 250 hours, in the hopes
of locating the missing family.
June 17 was graduation day for the children who attended the Citrus County Sheriff's Of-
fice's summer day camp, "Harmony in the Streets." Camp counselors and attendees all had
