makes it stronger.
Yes, the United States is a melting pot. But let’s face it, our country was founded
and built by a makeup of people who were almost exclusively Caucasian, Christian and
European. Are we supposed to be ashamed of that? Is it racist to bring that fact to the atten-
tion of the world?
In the late 19th and early 20th century America was a destination point for many
immigrants. They came to America and were proud to learn our language and adopt our
way of life. Our country prospered with the infusion of Asians, Europeans and Africans
who came to our shores to earn a better life for their families.
It seems to me the new breed of immigrants feel like we should adopt their lan-
guage. It also seems to me that many, certainly not all, of the people coming into our coun-
try have a sense of entitlement: They think if they managed to get here illegally it doesn’t
matter.
The USSR fell apart because of ethnic and religious diversity. The people in the
area we call the Mid East have been at war with each other forever. How are all those di-
verse languages and religions working out for those folks?
I would love to see the products we buy have one language written on the label. I would
love to pick up the phone and call a government office or large company and not have to
be asked what language I understand. It shouldn’t be that way. Before anyone is called an
American citizen they should speak the language of the United States. And for those of you
who just arrived: That’s English.
Editor’s Note: Further evidence of the trend in the U.S. this past weekend, it’s
estimated that 90% of the fans at the Pasadena Rose Bowl were cheering the visiting Mexi-
can team in the 2011 gold cup soccer match with the U.S. And an additional “kick in the
