The
dential structure fire at 10040 N. Stafford Dr. in Citrus Springs at 6:47 p.m., June 21. Engine
201 from Pine Ridge arrived on-scene at 6:59 p.m. to find a 1000 sq. ft. home approximately
50% involved in fire. First responders received information that the structure was unoccu-
pied. A search of the residence confirmed this, while the outside was attacked. Fire crews
from Derosa, Kensington, Pine Ridge, Beverly Hills, Citrus Springs and Connell Heights
quickly brought the fire under control. The water supply was provided by a tanker shuttle
due to a lack of hydrants in the area. WREC responded to disconnect the power to the resi-
dence. Red Cross responded to assist the residents with temporary housing. The State Fire
Marshal responded for investigation. The total loss was estimated at $67,500.
Lightning Causes House Fire, Residents Escape
At 3:33 p.m., June 11, the Citrus County Sheriff s Office, Division of Fire Rescue
responded to a structure fire located at 9222 E. Kenosha Court in Floral City. Engine 241
from the Floral City Fire Station arrived on-scene at 4:03 p.m. to find a 2500 square foot
home with fire in the attic in the garage area, flames showing through the roof and about
30% involved in fire. Crews went into a fast attack mode and aggressively attacked the fire
from the attic access in the garage area. Several crews from other stations arrived and the fire
was under control shortly and contained to the area involved upon arrival due to the quick
actions taken by the initial arriving crews. The scene was cleared at 7:36 p.m. Water supply
was supported with the other units on scene. The power was disconnected by Seco Electric.
The home owner refused assistance from the Red Cross and Salvation Army due to support
from friends that live in the area. The fire in the attic was a result of a lightning strike to the
home, which the home owners were occupying at the time the fire started, but they escaped
