Man Charged - Continued from page 4
Wheeler’s arrests came as a result of a special detail investigation of a string of
burglaries in the Beverly Hills area. Victims and witnesses said that an unknown male
would enter their home while they were sleeping and remove money from their wallets
or purses. Two of the victims/witnesses stated that they were either awake or had been
awakened during the burglaries. Witnesses described the suspect as a white male with short
hair wearing a dark-colored hoodie. The person they described matched the description of
Wheeler, according to the report.
On May 23 while the detective was working the special detail, Wheeler was seen
in the 500 block of S. Barbour St. (Beverly Hills). When he saw the headlights of the patrol
vehicle, the report stated, Wheeler ran to the north side of the home. The detective pulled
up and used his flashlight to locate Wheeler. The detective saw Wheeler and ordered him
to stop as he was climbing a fence and entering the back yard of a California St. residence.
Wheeler was taken into custody and placed into handcuffs.
On Wheeler s person, the detective found a flashlight, a switchblade knife and
approximately $353 in currency. He told the detective that he ran because he thought the
deputy was a person named “Loc,” to whom he owes money. The house was just a few
houses down from Wheeler’s residence, the report stated. Wheeler also said he was leaving
his girlfriend’s house because they’d had an argument. While Wheeler was being inter-
viewed, another report of a burglary in the area was called in to the sheriff s office.
The case is being reviewed, and other charges may be brought against Wheeler, as
