Spring in Crystal River. The manatee was suffering from cold stress injuries and was un-
derweight. FWC brought him to the Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park
for treatment and rehabilitation.
The park staff decided to name him Roosevelt in honor of his rescue taking place
on President's Day. President Theodore Roosevelt created the Civilian Conservation Corp
that led to the creation of the Florida Park Service. Under the care of the park's Wildlife
Care Rangers and our Veterinarian, Dr. Ray Ball, Roosevelt's condition quickly improved.
