a 12 year-old pedestrian who was transported to St. Joseph s Hospital in Tampa, Florida for
treatment.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, preliminary information lead the inves-
tigator to believe that these are the incidents that led up to the crash, which remains under
investigation: Tasha Pinney-Martell, 23, of Lecanto was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse
GS, traveling south on County Rd. 491, south of N. Forest Ridge Blvd. Meanwhile, Austin
Prather, 12, of Citrus Springs was walking with three other pedestrians in the southbound
lane, crossing, mid-block, from east to west, in a dark, unlit location, directly ahead of the
Mitsubishi. As the pedestrians walked into the path of the Mitsubishi, Ms. Martell attempt-
ed an evasive maneuver to avoid colliding with the pedestrians, but was unsuccessful. The
front left corner of the Mitsubishi struck Prather, who was propelled to the west shoulder of
the roadway. The Mtsubishi continued in a southwest direction onto the west shoulder of
the roadway where it struck a small tree and came to rest.
Niether Pinney-Martell or her 29 year-old passenger, Andy Martell, who were both
wearing seatbelts, received injuries. News for the Nature Coast Prather was injured.
