Wild Hogs Delay Traffic on
Remembering the past
Hwy 40 East of Inglis
An entire wild pig family met their demise early Monday morning in an accident
on Hwy 40 E by Little Lake Carpenter just west of Peaceful Acres. Karen Mosburg of Inglis
was on her way to work in Ocala at 6:15 AM when the pig family entered the roadway at the
same time in the early morning darkness. Karen was driving a heavy duty Chevy Surburban
and could not alter her path with guard rails on both sides of the road and hit all 8 pigs in a
group crossing from south to north. Karen said she equated it to the motion of a wild Disney
ride she had in the past.
The sow weighed approximately 90 lbs and the young were 50 lbs. each. There was
minor damage to the large Surburban after rolling over the 8 pigs and Karen drove off to get
the vehicle checked out.
Karen’s major concern was her husband Larry was not far behind her going to work
in Ocala on a motorcycle and her first action was to call and warn him. Wildlife of all types
is on the move right now with all the springs and lakes drying up and these animals have to
travel to get water.

a hobby but a way of survival in the past. With nationwide Prohibition in 1920, the illegal

ones who transported and smuggled the shine andrumrunners smuggled the goods by water.
