First Nature Coast Fishing Challenge
Launches From Yankeetown
The weather cooperated for the 1st annual Nature Coast Challenge, kayak and
canoe, catch-photograph-release fishing tournament on Saturday (April 21) . Anglers left
Yankeetown at first light, in search of Redfish and Trout, in the tournament hosted by the
Inglis Yankeetown Lions Club. The club expressed its special thanks to 303 Products, the
Levy County Visitors Bureau, NorCross Marine Products Inc., D.O.A., Diaachi, Blakemore
Lures,Kayak Fishing Magazine, Florida Gulf Safe Seafood and others for sponsoring the
very successful event.
“ Kayak Fishing is one of the fastest growing sports and we have the prefect venue
”, stated Tournament Director-Donna Norton, “All net proceeds from this event are used
to support the charitable efforts of the Lions. Primary among these are free eye exams, eye
glasses and eye surgery for those in the community who could not otherwise afford them.
We started small but we’re going to grow fast. We drew participants from both Tampa and
Jacksonville this year. We plan for this to be an annual event for the club and we’re already
making plans for a bigger, better tournament next spring.”
