Tarmac's Approval
No Surpirse
By Tom Russell, Newscaster Editor
After a marathon hearing that
began Tuesday (5-3-11) and lasted into
the night and ended Wednesday after 2
a.m. the Levy County commission passed
by a 3-1 vote the special exception use
permit for the Tarmac King Rd. mine in
Levy County. The Levy Board is operat-
ing with one member short awaiting the
appointment of a new member by the gov-
ernor. Commissioners Ryan Bell, Danny
Stevens, and Chad Johnson voted yes
while the one dissenting vote was cast by
Marsha Drew of Yankeetown.

or heard from are happy with the commis-
sion’s decision to go ahead with the ap-
proval before the Army Corp. of Engineers
“weighs in”.
The Army Corps. of Engineers has
yet to approve the project. Tarmac will not
be permitted to do any work on site un-
til all local, state and federal permits are
obtained. Levy County will allow Tarmac
to begin its site work and construction of
its facilities once its final operating permit
