WELCOME TO THE FACTS
On April 16, 2013 the Inglis Town Commission voted to allow Mayor Glenda
Kirkland to begin negotiations with the Levy County Sheriff McCallum to contract
with Inglis to provide law enforcement coverage. In February 2013 Sheriff McCallum
appeared before the commission and stated that he could provide coverage in Inglis for
a cost of $396,420.50 for the first year with an additional cost of $42,946.55 needed for
administrative support. Specifically, the sheriff’s budget will be a total of $439,367.05
as opposed to the current Inglis P.D.’s current budget of $342,196.00. This is a increased
cost of $97, 171.05.
Mr. David Knowles, Director of the Levy County Emergency Medical Servic-
es was contacted to provide EMS and fire protection coverage for the city. Mr. Knowles
stated he would provide coverage at an increased cost for residents and business owners
alike. Based upon Mr. Knowles statement at the October 9, 2012 meeting this proposal
was tabled by the commission. During December 2012, Mr. Knowles was contacted via
email and provided with a draft proposal allowing emergency medical services (EMS)
in Inglis. On December 27, 2012, he responded that the county was not interested in
locating EMS in Inglis. If both fire and law enforcement contracts are consummated
there will be an increased cost for everyone. This is in direct contradiction to what the
new town commissioners promised voters if they were elected this year.
On April 28, William Crow AmVets Post 447 celebrated the fifth anniversary of the post’s
charter being established. AmVets had a short ceremony, followed by a dinner, to honor their
