I remember those
days when I would stay out
late at night then jump out of
bed early the next morning, put
on a shirt, pants and shoes and
rush to work. If I were supposed to be at
work at 6:00 AM, I would set the alarm for 5:30
back in those days and still make to the job
on time. These days are quite different. I set
my alarm for 4:30 AM to arrive at the work-
place at 6:00 AM and I almost always wake up
a few minutes before the alarm goes off.
As we get older we have to be a little
more careful about dressing and leaving the
house. A few months ago I showed up for
work wearing one brown shoe and one black
shoe. Worse yet, I didn’t even notice until a
young female employee told me of my ward-
robe malfunction: “is that a new fashion state-
ment Mr. Doug”, she asked. It was actually a
statement of another sort, my desire not to
wake my dear wife Kathie. I didn’t lay out my
