Gains were made across the board:
•
Citrus County’s labor force grew by 126 to 57,959 at the same time the
number of employed rose by 474 to 51,256 while unemployed dropped by 340 to 6,703
•
Marion County’s labor force expanded by 931 to 133,238, the employ-
ment level grew by 1,758 to 116,634 and dropped by 827 to 16,604.
•
Levy County’s labor force increased by 176 to 17,407, number of those
employed rose by 259 to 3,715 and those without jobs dropped 83 to 1,877.
Florida’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate fell from 11.5 to 11.1 percent,
the lowest since November 2009.
Becky Rust, AWI’s chief economist, said that while an unemployment rate of
11.1 percent is still too high, the downward trend is “an encouraging trend and clearly
heading in the right direction.”
Rust cautioned that Florida’s unemployment rate tops 19 percent if discouraged
workers are factored in as well as those who are underemployed or involuntarily working
part time.
The Ocala MSA continued to post the second-highest unemployment rate in the
state behind Palm Coast’s 14.5 percent. However, in terms of job losses, the Ocala MSA is
down 700 jobs over the year, or 0.08 percent, knocking it solidly out of the running among
MSAs for greatest job loss.
