Cooking a pound of bacon and dozen eggs for breakfast for one of our sons and his buddy
was not uncommon.
One of the most difficult things to adjust to when the house empties out is the quiet.
No loud music, no siblings arguing over bathroom rights, no fights, just silence: deafening
silence. It feels uncomfortable at first.
The telephone no longer rings constantly. In fact, there were many days soon after my chil-
dren left home that I would pick up the phone just to see if it was working. When the three of
them were living at the house there was rarely a minute that the phone was not being used. I
learned to control my frustration over the phone usage. I would get in my car and drive to the
nearest convenience store to use the phone. It only cost a quarter in those days and I didn't
blow my stack peeling my children's fingers off the telephone receiver.
Another change that has occurred is there is food in the house these days and I have no
problem finding a cup to drink out of or cutlery to use. All our children swore that they did not
take cups or cutlery from the house, but it disappeared when they lived under our roof. I
deduced that our kids were either stashing the items to stock their own households in the
future or selling them at the flea market.
When I get hungry at night these days and decide to raid the kitchen for a snack, it is
refreshing to have at least a stale soda cracker in the cupboard or a leftover piece of chicken
in the refrigerator. I also enjoy going for a glass of milk or water and being able to find a

Witnesses say the man entered the store alone, went to the pharmacy, displayed a hand gun
and demanded oxycontin. The robbery then left the store with about 200 pills. Detectives
believe he departed in a vehicle, but have no description. No shots were fired and no one was
injured. Anyone with information about this individual is asked to call Detective Gary
Atchison, at the Citrus County Sheriff's Dept., 352-726-4488, extension 335, or you can call the
anonymous tip line at 1-888-anytips. The CVS pharmacy in Crystal River was robbed in mid
February and the drug of choice was oxycontin. That suspect has since been arrested.
