YANKEETOWN-- The U.S. Coast Guard
April 12, after their vessel capsized near Crystal River.
Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg Command Center watch
were notified by way of a 911 transfer call, at 3:45 pm, that a boat with two women and one
man had capsized, about a mile north of the barge canal in Yankeetown.
A boat crew aboard a 24-foot Rescue Boat from Station Yankeetown was launched
at 3:46 pm. The boat crew arrived on scene at 4:21 pm to find a man and woman on top of
the overturned boat, and a second woman in the water, clinging to the hull of the boat. The
boat crew recovered all three and transported them to the barge canal's boat ramp where
emergency medical services was waiting. No injuries were reported.
"The boat is currently capsized and remains anchored," said Lt. Jason Holstead,
command duty officer at Sector St. Petersburg. "All mariners are reminded to use caution
when transiting the area."
