Based on the testimony of witnesses, the three suspects were transported to the
Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
Carter, Chapin and Reese stated that they were responsible for stealing wire from
seven irrigation pivots in the Williston and Chiefland areas. They also said that James Al-
len Perry, of Bronson, was involved in the thefts. Perry was located at a Bronson home and
brought in for questioning. Perry admitted to stealing and assisting with the crimes by being
a look-out and driving the car to the farmers’ fields.
The suspects confessed to all the pivot thefts and said they had also planned to
violate six additional pivot thefts in Chiefland on April 9.
Levy County residents are asked to be vigilant in reporting any suspicious activity
to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office to work with deputies to prevent and solve crimes.
Robert James Carter, 20, 14431 NE 50th Pl., Williston, was charged with 5 counts
of grand theft, 5 counts of felony criminal mischief, burglary, auto theft and dealing in stolen
property; his bond was set at $805,000.
Christopher Alan Chapin, 24, 14431 NE 50th Pl., Williston, was charged with 2
counts of grand theft and 2 counts of felony criminal mischief; his bond was set at $300,000.
James Allen Perry, 22, 10261 NE 68th Ln., Bronson, was charged with 3 counts of
grand theft and 3 counts of felony criminal mischief; his bond was set at $450,000.
