Letter to the Editor: (response to a letter published April 4, 2012)
I have never responded to a letter to the editor or a column in The Newscaster
concerning the Inglis Police Department or its members. However after reading the letter
written by Ms. Trisha Ballard I feel compelled to do so.
I have been the administrative assistant to Chief Steve Dixon during the four years
he has been the Chief of Police. I have personally observed him speak with hundreds of
citizens during that time and never has he been disrespectful to any of them.
I do not know or understand why Ms. Ballard feels this way or why she came away
with the perception that she and her deceased husband were disrespected by the chief. Chief
Dixon advised for an Officer to be present to escort the memorial procession. The officer did
show up at the time advised - and the procession did not. The department was not advised
of any time change. I know he regrets any misunderstanding.
Ms. Ballard should also be aware that Chief Dixon served two tours in Vietnam and

is also a decorated veteran. You should also know he was very hurt by your letter, but would
