From Yankeetown Town Hall
A Guest Commentary by Mayor Dawn Clary
Water Conservation - Town Council has passed a resolution proclaiming April as “Water
Conservation Month”. Promoted by SWFWMD, the resolution calls upon each citizen and
business to help protect this resource. They have given us two tip sheets, one for saving wa-
ter indoors and one for outdoors which are available at town hall free of charge. The biggest
potential water saver indoors could be your toilet. Replacing an older toilet with one of the
new low-flow models would save an estimated 870 gallons per month.
Garbage Good News - Our garbage collection contract with Waste Pro is coming up for
renewal. Per Waste Pro they will not be asking for a rate increase. The contract renewal
discussion will be on the agenda for the next regular council meeting.
Job Openings - Yankeetown will have an opening on the Board of Adjustments and
also the Board of Trustees. The BOA handles such things as zoning appeals and variance
requests. For more information contact ZO Chris Fineout. The BOT oversees the Withla-
coochee Gulf Preserve. To apply just drop a letter by town hall stating why you would like
to be on either of these boards, and a resume.
Garbage Workshop - The Council held a workshop last week to revisit the new garbage
ordinance. There have been some complaints concerning the new requirements. Many of
