Remembering the Past
Sexual Predator Operation
The Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) Taskforce recently released the results of
Operation Predator, an initiative that verified the current locations and criminal backgrounds
of the permanent sexual predator residents in Florida. According to the Florida Department
of Law Enforcement (FDLE), Florida s more than 46,000 permanent sexual predator resi-
dents are made up of 36,452 resident offenders, 9,940 resident predators and 251 juvenile
sexual offenders.
According to the Citrus County Sheriff s Office, the gathered statistics for Citrus
County include: 23 sexual predator address verifications, 105 sexual offender address verifi-
cations, 2 sexual predators arrested or charged for registration violations, 28 sexual offend-
ers arrested or charged for registration violations, 3 related warrants served through arrests,
and 6 ancillary arrests made through this operation enforcement.
According to the Capt. Brad Smith of the Criminal Investigations Division, "Cit-
rus County was very proactive in this operation. Our deputies and crime analysts worked
diligently to make sure these individuals were all accounted for and following state law. We
follow up with these particular individuals on a regular basis, and when we can be a part
of an operation like this, it s just another way we can protect our children and community
members from harm."

the construction came plenty of jobs and hundreds of workers who needed housing, food,
