Thorpe attended a week long training program from March 11-15 in New Orleans, Loui-
siana presented by MacDonnell Group Marine training program and instructed by Captain
Jeffrey W. Monroe, MM, MTM, CPE.
The course consists of 40 hour classroom instruction which included everything
from The Intermodal Transportation System, Cargo Management, and Port Operations to
Tariffs, Terminal Regulations and Security. The objective of the course is to strengthen the
effectiveness and competitiveness of port and marine transportation organizations through
a unique professional development experience for individuals. Capt. Monroe explained the
program was exclusively Canadian in scope; but recently began to expand the programs of-
ferings to include the United States. “One of our goals is to develop a CPE Certified Port
Executive alumnus that will positively influence the port and marine transportation industry
