Temple in the East bracket, 13th seeded
Murray State beat Vanderbilt, a 4 seed in the
West bracket and in the South, 11th seeded
Old Dominion whipped 6th seeded Notre
Dame. All that in round one and the mayhem
was just beginning.
Round two saw the overall number
one seeded team in the tournament, Kan-
sas, get beat by Northern Iowa, a 9 seed, the
South brackets #2 seed, Villanova, lost to #9
seed St. Mary’s, (St. Who?). In the East, #3
seeded New Mexico fell to #11 Washington.
My brackets were in shreds after
the first round and I burned the remains af-
ter round two. It is of little consolation that
Tom’s brackets are not in much better shape
than mine. I finished round one hitting 20 of
32 games correctly for 63%, Tom was a tad
better getting 21 out of 32 for 66%.
I predicted Marquette, a #6 seed, to
beat Michigan State, a #5 seed, for the cham-
pionship. I liked Michigan State’s chances
because they are a good tournament team
under Tom Izzo and Marquette simply on a
silly hunch, (they fell to an 11 seed in the 1st
round). I feel like a traitor abandoning the
only SEC #1 seed, Kentucky on my brack-
