peaceful and cheerful streets. Many cried as they crossed the Bridge. The President, At-
torney General and other notables gave speeches urging the continuation of voting rights.
These were broadcast on large screens in the gathering areas and along the march route.
Ms. Myers and her friend, Pam Ricker from Rainbow Springs, were with a con-
tingent of almost 700 Unitarian-Universalists who wore their name tag as well as that of
the League of Women Voters. Many in the group were long time civil rights activists and
perhaps half were ministers. Fifty years earlier a UU minister from Boston, James Reeb,
came to demonstrate in Selma and was killed.
In addition many wore buttons or shirts reading Black Lives Matter,a reference to
the recent shootings of young black men. And so despite the tremendous progress made in
civil rights over 50 years, these slogans remind us there is more to be done.
